MILF Nutritional Program June 2015
So the six week Fitness Freak MILF nutritional program drew to a close 2 weeks ago, releasing this group of mighty MILF’s back into the wilderness of work/house/husband/Bambinos and Food… but now with an armory of better knowledge of themselves and their relationship with food.
The MILF Nutritional Program helped them take away a repertoire of tasty, nourishing recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks that will help them to lose weight and inches (and keep them off), banish the bloat, and ultimately nourish their bodies with great tasting food (yes, that’s all possible).
They now also have a clarity on planning & preparing meals… and an understanding that success comes from making small positive changes and executing them daily…
How did the six ladies get on?
The nutritional program kicked off with a questionnaire which all applicants had to complete, so I could understand the background of each person and where they currently were at in their journey to become a fitter, healthier person.
With any nutritional program, or in fact any goal you have you, crucially you must be ready for change. The questionnaire is to establish this one important factor: were they ready for change? Those, the chosen six who were ready, I gave them an intro phone call to instruct them on what to do next.
A private MILF Facebook group was set up for all participants and this created a community of support. This group is a vital cog in the workings of the nutritional program. Being surrounded by people that are coming from a similar stand point as yourself and are on a similar journey as you provides huge support, encouragement and accountability to one another. No one wants to let the team down. Quite the contrary, everyone wants to build the group up. They were all leaders; everyone had a different struggle that resonated with the entire group.

Week 1
Food diary week and 3 recipes to try.
This was the gentle intro week; no pressure of taking pictures of every meals, just getting used to the group and the odd recipe to make and upload to the group.
Every evening the MILF’s checked in with their daily food consumption. Everyone was encouraged to eat as close to what is typical of their diet as possible. The objective was to get a true reflection of where each person was at.
Protein balls and yogi pots were some of the #FreakEat recipes I encouraged them to try out and sure enough they soon became staples for the rest of the program.
In my experience, snacks & breakfast are the two items/occasions where people struggle to find suitable companions. Having that “sweet edge taker offer” is incredibly important on many levels. Among other things, it helps busy mums stay sane when at times it’s chaos all around them.
The Freak Eats yogi pots provided a speedy, nutritious breakfast first thing in the morning that smacked the usual cereals, toast or nothing at all, in the face.
Any issues and questions were ironed out over the next couple of days ready for kick off the following week; suggestions regarding each of the MILF’s individual diets were made, based on the food diary they submitted.
Week 2
It’s show time.
EVERYDAY this week each MILF had to post a picture of their breakfast & snacks to the Facebook group for me to comment. Also, on Sunday evening they had to report ahead for the start of the week. This point was a constant during the rest of the program and became critical because it helped them to be conscious & mindful of their week ahead, of what they needed to have prepared, and allowed them to start the week in control & with direction. It generated momentum for the rest of the week, as MILF Trish witnessed herself.
She runs her own biz and has a 1-hour commute each way everyday. Mondays are her usual late finish, but there’s always the curve ball of changed schedules that can upset the best laid plans. However, she found out that when you’ve done the work, taken time to think ahead and put back up strategies in place, most situations can be tackled like a Boss.
Week 3
Lunch + recap
The MILF’s were well truly into the SWING of the nurtritional program now.
Lunch time meals were the emphasis this week; each member posted to the Facebook group their lunchtime meals while also continuing to post pics of breakfast & snacks. Accountability was the key to the success of this group. The MILF’s were well and truly on the swing of things now, so I rewarded them by introducing them to fake-away Fridays: A fresh and healthy take on take-away Fridays, with Chief Freaks pizza (using gluten free as base) and Chicken goujons & sweet potato chips being the stars of the show.
Determination was fundamental, as MILF’s Nolween and Deirdre showed to the group.
Nolween started her week off with a school trip with her 4th class pupils. On the way home the bus stopped off at the Golden Arches. It was great test for Nolween, who decided not to give in and instead snacked on an apple, some nuts, and H2O. There’s a perfect example of been mindful; getting your head focused on what and when you eat makes a massive difference to your body, health & well being.
Deirdre’s challenge, on the other hand, was a bit more ‘physical’. She fractured her ankle while training, but it did not break her spirit. After the initial frustration and pain, she received tons of encouragement from her MILF sisters and decided to move on. To stay at home in a cast required a whole new level of focus & discipline, which she developed with flying colours. The initial feelings were replaced with a new laser beamed determination to stick to the plan and oh boy when she’s back in full working order every barbell, dumbbell & prowler better watch out:)
Week 4
At this point we were REALLY cruising. Momentum is built and the sisterhood of MILF’s were giving each other virtual high fives and hollering “Milf And Proud Whistle At Me Outload” :)
The priority for this week was dinner time, or deadly dinner time, as it should be called, since so many of the MILFS found it a real nightmare before: rushing in from work; snacking whilst making everyone’s dinner; snacking after the dinner, followed by a gentle graze until bed time.
Identifying the times of the day and particular days where the MILF’s eating habits came unstuck, and where they felt out of control or overwhelmed was key to the success of the program. Sarah is an example of it: Her Wednesdays stressed her to the eyeballs. It’s the day when she finishes late at work, has to pick up her two Bambinos on her way home and make dinner for the family. So after a long day, Sarah was starving as she cooked the kids dinner. The result? One biscuit here and some chocolate there, plus scooping up the kiddies left overs before here own dinner. Pick, pick, pick… little pickers have bigger knickers.
With the program, Sarah became more mindful of what exactly happened on Wednesdays. She thought about the way it usually goes and put steps in place to address it. First, she prepared some snacks and got organised for her dinner the night before. Second, she brought a piece of fruit and handfull of nuts in the car as her after-work snack for the journey home. Third, she replaced the sweets with some dates or a protein ball whilst prepping kiddies dinner.
Planning ahead is essential when your a busy mum; it doesn’t have to be over the top, but having those hunger “edge taker-offers” will help keep the blood sugar levels steady, which is key to not turning into a mindless ‘Cookie Monster’.
Week 5 & 6
Two weeks to go and three big challenges ahead, as we nailed the whole process down and reinforced what had been learned and implemented over the past 4 weeks.
Our challenge # 1 was undertaken by MILF Sarah, who got invited out to a lovely family meal in Dublin. After the inital thought of “How can you do this to me when I’m in the middle of my MILF Mission”, Sarah got the support of her fellow MILFS, who had her back. She checked in with pictures of the menu (starter, main and dessert options), and all the group responded with advice and encouragement, getting Sarah over the line by making correct choices instead of mindless overeating.
Challenge # 2 came for MILF Jillian, who had the biggest night of the year so far in her home town of Rathgormack. But this time she was prepped. She had lettuce wraps with paprika, coated chicken, and a protein ball before she headed out, making sure hunger was at bay and under control whilst enjoying the night of craic. True deidcation to the Nutritional Program.
Our final challenge was for MILF Maeves, who pulled out her wedding dress as her 4th wedding anniversary approached. It fitted like a glove for the first time since her special day!!
